In TD Canadian Personal Banking, there are 900+ active artifacts that the BI practice delivers on a regularly basis. As the enterprise migrates to Azure Cloud, these legacy-built on-premises artifacts require significant migration effort. Since the reports have individual ETLs, summarizations, and visualizations, they need to be standardized in methodologies and approaches. Over time, this has created many versions of 'truth' for the business and duplication in processing efforts. With the introduction of a new Cloud platform, the BI practice had the opportunity to transform all 900+ artifacts during this process. The framework is to create a single centralized semantic data layer residing in the analytical zone on cloud that would curate all metrics for all business needs. The centralized metric hub became the single source of truth for all metrics, feeding to all new BI products and self-serve applications on the cloud and resulting in significant cost savings and better governance for TD.
