Duct Tape to Databricks: 3 years of Brickbot at Data & AI Summit

Brickbot started as a simple chatbot hacked together for DAIS 2024. DuckDB in memory, parquet files in git, and a prayer that Heroku wouldn't go down. At DAIS 2025 we improved it with tool calling and direct integration with RainFocus, but it was still mostly cobbled together. Now, for DAIS 2026, we've rebuilt it entirely on Databricks with no custom infrastructure, using Agent Bricks, Vector Search, Databricks Apps, Lakebase, UC Functions as MCP tools, and Lakeflow. This talk traces that journey, the lessons learned shipping an AI app to 30,000 conference attendees, and how the Databricks' platform evolved alongside it.
