This talk builds on the foundations of Evolutionary Database Design, applying the framework of Values, Principles, Methods, Practices, and Tools to a revolutionary capability: database branching. In 1999, Thoughtworks pioneered evolutionary design out of necessity, leading to modern standards like migrations and tools such as Flyway and Liquibase. However, despite improvements in testing and automation, teams still lacked the ability to branch databases as easily as code.Lakebase changes this. Its copy-on-write technology creates a full-fidelity, governance-aware production clone in roughly one second, regardless of size, with zero initial storage.Kevin and Pramod will demonstrate how database branching transforms workflows:* Self-Sufficiency: Enabling teams to be more productive and autonomous.* Collaboration: Shifting the DBA from a "gatekeeper" to a design contributor.* Innovation: Empowering teams to run unlimited experiments to find optimal solutions.
