Johns Hopkins is undergoing a major cloud transformation, moving from a legacy SQL Server EDW to a modern, scalable data and analytics platform. In this session, the JHHP and CitiusTech team will share best practices for designing and implementing an enterprise‑grade Databricks platform on AWS GovCloud—critical for supporting Johns Hopkins’ partnerships with the armed forces and Tricare. The session highlights architectural principles for building a modular, ingestion‑ready platform that unifies diverse data sources, along with results such as reducing workload runtimes from 22+ hours to 2–3 hours for full loads and under an hour for incremental runs. Presenters will also cover lessons learned in optimizing pipelines, using a Brickbuilder‑certified metadata ingestion framework, and enabling a strong data‑quality engine. Attendees will leave with practical guidance for large‑scale cloud modernization in regulated environments while creating reusable, enterprise‑wide data assets.
