Databricks has always had a strong foundation for data engineering, but one thing has been missing: a semantic layer that lives inside the platform. Metric Views finally change that. With Metric Views, measures and models are defined directly in Unity Catalog and reachable from notebooks, the SQL editor, dashboards, and Genie. Data engineers and analysts are finally working from the same definitions, no more translating DAX back into SQL to understand what a number means. In this session we will walk through what Metric Views are and what the setup looks like in practice. Then we will look at the modeling decisions, whether to build small specialized views or broader shared ones, how those choices affect reuse and consistency, and how they affect what Genie returns and how dashboards behave.New to metric views or already using them, you will leave with a clearer picture of how to approach them.
