UC managed tables built on Delta and Iceberg table formats deliver faster query performance, lower storage costs, and automatic optimizations out of the box — and they've improved significantly in the last year. This session covers what's new, what UC managed tables unlock, and what you need to know to make an informed decision.
We'll walk through the latest capabilities now available on UC managed tables. Highlights include Catalog Commits that enable writes from external engines and multi-statement transactions, Managed Disaster Recovery, Automatic Upgrades, Auto-TTL, Auto Indexing, Automatic Liquid Clustering and Predictive Optimization which can increase query speeds by 20x and reduce storage costs by 50%.
From there, we'll address the questions we hear most and share best practices. How can I easily convert to managed tables if I access my external tables today by path? How can I segregate my data? How can I access these tables externally? You'll leave with a clear understanding of what UC managed tables offer today, what's changed, and a framework for deciding when and how to adopt them.
