Why Caresource Chose Databricks AI/BI Over Traditional BI for Regulatory Reporting

CareSource initially planned to migrate hundreds of state-mandated SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports to Power BI Paginated Reports. However, with a mature Databricks platform already in place, that approach would have required added data movement, duplicated governance logic, and new licensing costs.

CareSource and West Monroe share how a Databricks AI/BI pilot reshaped the strategy. By keeping regulatory reporting in Databricks, CareSource eliminated downstream exports, improved reliability, and reduced runtimes from hours to minutes. We’ll review the scalable architecture, including a custom extract framework that generates state-specific files and automates secure SFTP delivery, plus a business-friendly interface that drove adoption among non-technical users.
