To simplify navigating in Databricks, we are releasing a new workspace browsing experience. The new Workspace Browser makes it easier for you to organize and browse content. It unifies browsing for content across the Data Science & Engineering, Machine Learning, and SQL product areas. You can also browse while in the context of your work inside a notebook.

Full Page Browsing

There are two main changes with the new Databricks Workspace Browser. The first is that opening up the Workspace Browser from the left navigation panel will give you a full-page browsing experience. This full-page experience will make it easier for you to jump between folders and organize your content. Another benefit of the full-page experience is that you can more easily see metadata like owner and created date.

The master list view on the left and the folder path breadcrumb at the top will make navigating the folder structure easier.

You can right-click on files and folders to take actions like making a copy or moving. You can perform these right-click actions on either the main table view or the master list view. You can even drag and drop objects into folders in either the main table view or master list view or the breadcrumbs.

Sidebar Browser in Notebooks

The second change is that Notebooks will now include an in-context Workspace Browser in the sidebar. Similar to the full-page experience, this browser supports right-click actions on objects and folders so that you can quickly perform tasks like copying file paths without having to go to the full-page browsing experience. The browser will be navigable and automatically open to the notebook's location.

You can also organize your Data Science & Engineering, Machine Learning, and SQL content in the same Workspace Browser. This means that you can create and share folders that include notebooks, queries, dashboards, and experiments.

To try out this new experience, open the Workspace Browser in either the Data Science & Engineering or Machine Learning product areas and click "Try the new Workspace Browser" at the bottom of the browser.

NOTE: The new full-page Workspace Browser is already enabled in the SQL product area. To enable the full-page experience in the Data Science & Engineering and Machine Learning product areas and the sidebar Workspace Browser experience in Notebooks, follow the steps above.
