  • Hear from industry leaders at the Energy & Utilities Industry Forum on Tuesday, June 10
  • Navigate tens of industry breakout sessions and education opportunities

The biggest event of the year in data and AI is upon us! As Industry Marketing Leader for Energy & Utilities at Databricks, I couldn’t be more excited for Data and AI Summit, taking place in San Francisco, June 9-12, 2025. More than 20,000 data and AI leaders will descend on Moscone Center to take part in 700+ sessions, keynotes and training at the world’s largest data, analytics and AI conference.

A foundational part of this year’s show includes the Energy & Utilities Industry Experience. This blog highlights the what, but let’s start with why now.

Why data intelligence in the energy industry now?

Energy leaders are transforming industry, leveraging the potential of all their data and AI, and bringing data intelligence to every team. Energy organizations are exploring how data helps shift from reactive maintenance to predictive, risk-based asset integrity & safety management, a key shift to reduce downtime, enhance worker safety, and extend asset life that lowers O&M costs.

For their many decentralized and geographically diverse teams, they’re shifting from manual, field-level operations to intelligent, autonomous energy infrastructure - real-time, AI-driven energ trading, grid balancing, and generation scheduling across fuels and renewables. The benefit they’re seeing? Improved trading margins, stabilized renewable intermittency and enhanced grid reliability, all foundational to helping meet fluctuating customer demands.

Lastly, Energy leaders are shifting beyond carbon as compliance to data-driven decarbonization & new energy business models - using AI to optimize emissions reduction, track ESG metrics and enable low-carbone services. Not only are they improving ESG performance, they are better supporting transition goals and creating monetizable decarbonization services.

At this year’s Data and AI Summit, Energy leaders will take to the stage to share their story - just how they’re moving the needle, with data intelligence. Let’s dive into what you can expect in  few short weeks at the event.

Energy & Utilities Industry Experience

Energy & Utilities Industry Forum

Mid-afternoon Tuesday, June 10, we’ll kick off the week with our marquee Energy & Utilities Industry Forum. From 2:40 p.m. - 3:40 p.m. in Moscone West, you’ll hear from senior leaders from organizations including Shell, NOV, Westinghouse Electric, and Southern Company on how they’re thinking about the transformative power of data and AI.

Following the Forum, you’ll have an opportunity to network with hundreds of other industry peers at the Industry Networking Reception.

Energy & Utilities Industry Breakout Sessions

On Wednesday and Thursday, tens of energy & utilities thought leaders will showcase how they’re thinking about industry challenges in the context of data. I picked out a few notable sessions - reserve your spot before seats fill up!

  • Low-Emission Oil & Gas: Engineering the Balance Between Clean and Reliable: Join two energy industry leaders as they showcase groundbreaking applications of AI and data solutions in modern oil and gas operations. NOV demonstrates how their Generative AI pipeline revolutionized drilling mud report processing, automating the analysis of 300 reports daily with near-perfect accuracy and real-time analytics capabilities. BP shares how Unity Catalog has transformed their enterprise-wide data strategy, breaking down silos while maintaining robust governance and security. Together, these case studies illustrate how AI and advanced analytics are enabling cleaner, more efficient energy operations while maintaining the reliability demanded by today's market.
  • Modernizing Critical Infrastructure: AI and Data-Driven Solutions in Nuclear and Utility Operations. This session showcases how both Westinghouse Electric and Alabama Power Company are leveraging cloud-based tools, advanced analytics, and machine learning to transform operational resilience across the energy sector. In the first segment, we'll explore AI's crucial role in enhancing safety, efficiency, and compliance in nuclear operations through technologies like HiVE and Bertha, focusing on the unique reliability and credibility requirements of the regulated nuclear industry. We’ll then highlight how Alabama Power Company has modernized its grid management and storm preparedness by using Databricks to develop SPEAR and RAMP—applications that combine real-time data and predictive analytics to improve reliability, efficiency, and customer service.

So many other amazing industry leaders will share their story - check it out in the Data and AI Summit Energy & Utilities Industry Experience guide.
