Summary

  • Bring governed Databricks data and AI Agents directly into Microsoft 365 to help every employee act on trusted insights.
  • Empower business users to interact with Databricks Agent Bricks from Teams, Outlook, and Excel without compromising governance.
  • Leverage the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform on Azure to power every Microsoft 365 interaction with live, governed data from Unity Catalog.

A New Kind of Coworker

Across industries, employees spend hours searching for insights hidden across dashboards or waiting for data to be surfaced in the right tool. Even when data is available, acting on it often requires switching contexts between analytics and productivity apps.

Now, with Microsoft Agent 365 and Azure Databricks, that gap closes.

Microsoft Agent 365 introduces a new way for enterprises to “hire” digital coworkers that collaborate across Microsoft 365. By integrating with Azure Databricks, these digital “coworkers” are intelligent, data-aware Agents that understand your business, grounded in governed data from Unity Catalog.

From Idea to Action

When Microsoft presented Agent 365, they shared the vision of enabling users to hire agents that perform specialized work inside Teams, Outlook, and Office apps. The opportunity for Databricks to expand this offering was clear. By bringing the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform on Azure into Agent 365, organizations can unlock governed, real-time insights for every employee, without moving data or breaking compliance.

Imagine asking a Databricks Agent in Teams: “What are last quarter’s margins for our top products?” The Agent responds instantly with accurate numbers and context, drawn directly from your live Azure Databricks data. No copies, no exports, no delays.

How It Works

Agent 365 provides a secure environment for first-party and third-party agents to collaborate with users across Microsoft 365. Each agent has an Entra ID identity and operates under your organization’s existing Microsoft Purview and Defender controls.

When connected to Azure Databricks, a Databricks Agent can retrieve data and insights directly from Unity Catalog. It can summarize metrics and even provide reasoning behind its answers. Every interaction respects enterprise governance and is traceable back to the original data source.

For users, it feels like working with a knowledgeable teammate who always has access to the most current, trustworthy data.

Governance by Design

This integration builds on the shared foundation of trust between Microsoft and Databricks.

  • Identity and Access: Managed through Microsoft Entra ID, ensuring consistent authentication and policy controls.
  • Data Governance: Centralized in Unity Catalog, which secures data, models, and AI assets across Azure Databricks.

Together, these controls make it safe to extend data intelligence into everyday productivity tools, while maintaining the same enterprise-grade security posture that customers expect from both platforms.

Practical Scenarios

  • Finance and Operations: Ask for monthly revenue breakdowns and update Excel reports in seconds.
  • Manufacturing and Supply Chain: Query live SAP data through the Azure Databricks SAP Connector, such as cash flow analysis or realtime inventory data checks through Teams or Excel and share insights during production meetings.
  • Sales and Marketing: Summarize pipeline performance from Salesforce, identify trends in Google Adwords, etc., and prepare follow-ups in Outlook.

Each interaction is grounded in real-time Databricks data, governed through Unity Catalog, and surfaced securely in Microsoft 365.

Available in Private Preview

Agent 365 is currently available in a partner private preview announced at Microsoft Ignite 2025. Databricks is one of the first partners to join the preview, working with Microsoft to bring governed, AI-powered collaboration to enterprises.

Customers interested in exploring this new integration can contact their Databricks or Microsoft account teams to request access and start piloting use cases.
