Broad adoption across business areas

Adopted Genie for natural-language access to corporate data

Brasilprev helps Brazilians build their financial future through private pension plans, operating in a highly regulated environment where governance, security and data traceability are essential. To give business users self-service access to trusted data and answer everyday questions, Brasilprev adopted Databricks Genie. Genie provides a governed, natural-language interface for querying corporate data and building analytical work, shifting the focus from technical skills to business insights.

Empowering business users with natural language data access

Brasilprev's Data and Digital Business team is responsible for the strategy behind the company's data, analytics, artificial intelligence and digital channel capabilities. The team ensures that data and technology improve the customer experience, support business growth and guide decision-making across the organization. As Brasilprev navigates a period of transformation driven by longer life expectancy, the growing need for long-term financial planning and the rapid evolution of AI, the company has sought to balance innovation with the governance, security and privacy standards required in the financial and insurance sectors.

Before adopting Genie products, business users relied on dashboards, static reports or direct requests to data teams to draw insights from company data. These methods created queues, slowed response times and limited how much less technical users could explore data on their own.

"We have a robust analytics platform where many business users still depend on data specialists to answer simple questions or build specific analyses. We wanted to reduce this dependence and allow people to work using natural language," said Arley Mendonça, Data and AI Manager at Brasilprev.

Genie One and Genie Agents have been available on Brasilprev's analytics platform since July 2025. Because Brasilprev was already using Databricks as its data and AI platform, no additional implementation process was required.

Streamlining data queries while ensuring governance

As Genie adoption grew, Brasilprev focused on ensuring that employees could query corporate data without compromising the governance standards required in a highly regulated industry. Running on the Databricks Data + AI Platform, Genie gives business users access to data in natural language while keeping every query tied to established security, cataloging and governance controls.

"Genie gives our teams natural-language access to data, but every query still runs inside our governance rules. Nothing about speed changes what's tracked or who owns it," said Arley.

Leveraging Genie for natural language querying across scopes

Brasilprev's business areas are organized into "scopes," clusters linked to specific business areas that segment the use of the analytics platform. Genie is available across all of them. Employees primarily use Genie One for natural-language queries on corporate data. Brasilprev has also developed at least five custom Genie Agents to support more specific and recurring workflows.

Enhancing data catalog navigation with Unity Catalog and a Databricks App

Brasilprev also uses Genie to make its data catalog easier to navigate. The data catalog is an application developed as a Databricks App and integrated with the data governance portal. Built with support from Genie, it is designed to help users develop their analytical work in line with data governance guidelines. Through its integration with Unity Catalog, employees can interact with a generative AI chat to locate business tables, understand concepts, identify data owners and find the assets they need without relying on specialized technical knowledge. Every query remains connected to cataloged assets, keeping information tied to its business domain, data owner and data steward.

Genie has also become a resource for improving the efficiency of existing analytical workloads. In one example, a notebook used to monitor client communications had an average execution time of more than 2 hours. After Genie Code helped identify redundancies and restructure the logic, the notebook ran in just a few minutes. In the operations area, a monitoring job that took two to three hours to run was reduced to approximately 40 minutes after a similar review. Brasilprev also used Genie to support a runtime change across its notebooks and jobs. The team completed the change in about one hour and the related adjustments in about a day.

Shifting the focus from technical skills to business insights

Since adopting Genie, Brasilprev has observed that employees ask more questions, explore more hypotheses and conduct deeper analyses with greater autonomy. This shift appears in both adoption and day-to-day usage across the organization:

  • Active users of the analytics platform now exceed 160, with more than 100 having used Genie in the last three months.

  • Employees generated nearly 18,000 interactions in a recent 30-day period (17,819 Genie interactions).

An analyst on the Compliance team understood the business logic, but not the underlying technical languages. Using Genie Code's ability to build Power BI dashboards from prompts, the analyst independently developed a goal-tracking report with more than 100 complex formulas, a project that would typically have taken six months to a year under the traditional model.

"What struck us most was the reversal of dependencies. Previously, the limiting factor was technical knowledge of tools. Now, the decisive factor is business knowledge, which is exactly what our team does best," Arley said.

Elsewhere, teams have used Genie to build a tracking report, generate new visualizations and insights throughout the process, and create notebooks in response to daily data demands. Arley sees this democratization of data access as a source of competitive advantage: organizations that can turn data into decisions more quickly tend to innovate faster and respond better to customer needs and market shifts.

Looking ahead, he expects AI to move beyond a support tool and become an integral part of business processes, with intelligent agents, including Genie Agents, working alongside employees to automate tasks, support decisions and create more personalized customer experiences, all grounded in secure, scalable and well-governed analytical and AI workloads.
