What is this workshop?

A hands-on technical session where you'll implement ABAC policies, author metric views, and build Genie Agents on Azure Databricks, then connect it all to Microsoft Fabric. You leave with reusable SQL, YAML, and deployment patterns.

What you'll learn

  • Govern data at scale with Unity Catalog ABAC
  • Define trusted business metrics with metric views
  • Build and tune Genie Agents (use Genie Ontology)
  • Connect Azure Databricks and Microsoft Fabric

Who should attend

Data and analytics engineers. Prerequisites: Basic SQL and data governance familiarity. Lab access will be provided before the event.

FAQ

How do I implement ABAC in Azure Databricks?

Write declarative SQL policies on governed tags — they enforce row and column security dynamically across catalogs. No per-user grants.

What are metric views?

A GA feature (Runtime 16.4+) for defining KPIs in YAML and querying them with MEASURE() SQL. One definition, consistent across every tool.

How do I build a Genie Agent that gives accurate answers?

Combine Genie Ontology, custom instructions, trusted assets, and example SQL. Entity matching now indexes up to 100M rows for precise value lookups.

How does Azure Databricks connect to Microsoft Fabric?

Mirrored catalogs — zero-copy, zero data movement. Unified governance via Unity Catalog, native access for Fabric users.

Is this free? Yes Registration required. What do I walk away with?

An understanding of governed enterprise scale analytics and AI experiences in Databricks, a   Git repo with reusable SQL policies, metric definitions, Genie Agent configs, and deployment patterns.
