Lakebase Architecture Deep Dive
Opens the hood on Lakebase. Built on the lecture-demo pattern (teach a concept, immediately run it), the course explains the compute/storage split, why it yields a ~5x write gain by eliminating Full Page Writes, how copy-on-write branching is an O(1) operation, and how the five-level object hierarchy organizes real deployments. It is the architectural foundation the rest of the Lakebase pathway builds on.
Note: Databricks Academy is transitioning to a notebook-based format for classroom sessions within the Databricks environment, discontinuing the use of slide decks for lectures. You can access the lecture notebooks in the Vocareum lab environment.
The content was developed for participants with these skills/knowledge/abilities:
• Comfort reading Python and basic SQL
• Familiarity attaching Serverless compute in the Databricks workspace
• A working mental model of what Lakebase is (from LB-101)
Suggested prior course: LB-101 Introduction to Lakebase — establishes what Lakebase is and the use cases this course explains architecturally.
