Announcing the General Availability of SAP Business Data Cloud Connect to Databricks

Summary

  • The new SAP Business Data Cloud Connect enables bi-directional, live, zero-copy SAP data sharing with Databricks via Delta Sharing.
  • The integration provides a simple path to AI and analytics on top of SAP business semantics.
  • Use Databricks to unify your entire enterprise data estate, including SAP solutions, streamlining AI and analytics.

Today, SAP Business Data Cloud Connect is generally available for Databricks customers. Now customers across all cloud platforms can connect their SAP Business Data Cloud (SAP BDC) solution environment to their existing Databricks instance for zero-copy, bi-directional, live data sharing of SAP's semantically rich and governed Data Products - with no data engineering needed. Built on Delta Sharing, SAP Business Data Cloud Connect for Databricks leverages the same open protocols for data sharing that power the Databricks ecosystem.

Why this matters

Blending SAP data with enterprise data from other systems is crucial for processes such as forecasting, inventory management, and supply chain optimization. Until now, customers have relied on fragile replication methods—such as custom API exports, object storage copies, or manual CSV uploads. These introduced:

  • Governance risk from multiple replicas
  • Data silos when pipelines break
  • High cost from constant maintenance
  • Manual rebuilding of semantics that SAP applications provide out of the box
  • Compliance gaps with unsupported replication methods

Further, AI applications today are constrained by a lack of domain logic from the SAP ERP application and line-of-business systems such as SAP Ariba, SAP SuccessFactors, SAP Concur and SAP Fieldglass. Without SAP’s embedded domain logic, AI outputs lack critical business context, reducing accuracy and relevance.

Delta Sharing: Secure, content-rich, and live data

The new cloud service for SAP Business Data Cloud Connect to Databricks changes that. Powered by Delta Sharing, the industry’s first open protocol for secure data exchange, SAP Data Products can now be shared directly into your existing Databricks instances - live and with full business context from source SAP applications. This makes it easy to standardize pipelines, enforce governance, and power analytics, data warehousing, BI, and AI across the data estate on a single, trusted platform. You can now treat Databricks as the central operating system for all your data, while SAP BDC continues to be the trusted foundation for mission-critical SAP business processes.

Seamless configuration in a few clicks

Connecting SAP BDC to Databricks is fast, intuitive, and secure. With only a handful of steps, enterprises can establish a trusted link between the two platforms. The integration is protected by a dual-layer security model - mTLS combined with OAuth - helping to ensure a secure, secretless authentication. Once the connection is approved on both platforms, sharing data products in both directions is frictionless: assets published from SAP BDC can be mounted directly into Databricks Unity Catalog and treated just like any other Delta-shared assets. That means teams can start querying and analyzing SAP solution data alongside the rest of their enterprise data almost instantly, unlocking faster insights and more collaborative workflows.
