Prepare for your Databricks interview

Confirm video interview logistics
We conduct virtual interviews using Google Meet unless otherwise stated by your Recruiter. Knowing the interview logistics can help you build confidence for your interview. You don’t need to become an expert in Google features, but we recommend you familiarize yourself with the application before your interview by:
- Testing the video software’s audio and camera. As soon as the recruiting coordinator schedules your interviews, you can sign on to the video conferencing link.
- Practicing screen-sharing and transitioning slides for presentations

Set the surroundings
Put yourself in the interviewer’s shoes and ensure a professional, distraction-free video setup. Focus on these key areas:
- Environment — choose a clean, uncluttered background to maintain a professional appearance. Virtual backgrounds are more than welcome!
- Lighting — position your light source in front and avoid backlighting, which can create harsh shadows and make you appear as a silhouette. Natural light works best when you face it directly.
- Minimize distractions — check your camera frame for unnecessary movement or visual clutter. A distraction-free setup helps keep the focus on you and your conversation.

Be YOU!
At Databricks, we value authenticity and transparency. While technical preparation is important, the most impactful interviews come from genuine conversations. Share your experiences with confidence, let your personality shine and engage naturally — you’ve worked hard on preparing for this!
- Behavioral interview questions:
- These interviews help us understand how you work, learn, collaborate and navigate challenges. You’ll be asked to share real-life examples of past experiences, giving us insight into how you approach problem-solving and decision-making. Behavioral interviews also ensure a fair and consistent process — every candidate is evaluated against the same core competencies, creating an objective and level playing field.
- Examples of behavioral interview questions may start with:
- “Tell me about a time … ”
- “Describe a situation … ”
- “Give an example of … ”
- “How do you … ?”

Interview best practices
Ahead of your interview, we want to send a friendly reminder of some best practices for the interview process. These are aimed at protecting you, your current or former employer(s), and Databricks:
- We do not want (and please do not bring to Databricks) any trade secret or confidential information from your current or any prior employer!
- Remember that if you created anything during your time as an employee at your current or former employer, that employer likely owns it. Please don’t bring or share with Databricks anything owned by your current or prior employer.
- If you’re creating any documents for Databricks (e.g., a candidate assignment or presentation), do not use your current work computer and/or any materials from your current employer
- If you visit any Databricks office, do not bring your work computer. No matter what, please avoid connecting your work computer to any Databricks Wi-Fi network.
- Do not forward any information from your current or prior employer to Databricks
- While you’re still employed elsewhere, do not attend internal Databricks events
- Lastly, review your current employment contract to understand whether it contains provisions such as a noncompete or nonsolicitation clause
